GLASGOW has topped a new poll in the nation's favourite Christmas shopping destinations.
The news comes as city shoppers gear up for the festive season ahead of the Christmas lights switch on this Sunday.
A new survey, commissioned by the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, found Glasgow topped the shopping polls over all other Scottish cities.
Council leader Gordon Matheson, above, said: "I am delighted that this survey reinforces Glasgow's credentials as the UK's largest and most successful shopping destination outside London's west end.
"The city's Style Mile has some of the biggest brands and major retailers, and that's no different when it comes to Christmas."
Motorists are being warned of diversions ahead of the lights switch-on, with many streets around Merchant City being closed off for all or part of the day.
George Square will also be shut for the whole day.
