Craig Lawrie, 30, was thrown several feet in the air when he jumped over an opposing player as he came for a cross ball.

It is thought he couldn't get his hands out in time to cushion his landing.

Craig, who was playing for Ayrshire amateur side Glenmuir Thistle against Craigmark Burntonians in Dalmellington, was reported to have suffered a dislocated neck.

He was rushed to the spinal injuries unit at Glasgow's Southern General, where he is being kept horizontal and immobile.
