As reported in later editions of last night's Evening Times, pipers and performers who represented Scotland at the Delhi Games in 2010 showed off their skills at the launch in Buchanan Street, yesterday.

Although the details of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies are shrouded in secrecy, organisers promise the shows will be a "party" celebrating the best the city and Scotland has to offer.

More than one billion people are expected to tune in worldwide to watch the Games and live audiences of 40,000 will be at Celtic Park and Hampden Stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies.

TV producer Eileen Gallagher, a members of the Glasgow 2014 board and chairwoman of the Ceremonies, Culture and Queen's Baton Relay Committee, said: "Not saying too much yet about what the content is, but we need volunteers who are enthusiastic about the Games and will make the party.

"It's a big creative venture. We start with a blank canvas, but the heart of it is about Glasgow and Scotland."

And applications for cast members are now open. Anyone over 18 by March 1, 2014, can apply to audition for the ceremonies. No experience is necessary.
