A HOME care worker has been dubbed a hero after coming to the aid of a disabled woman who was having a heart attack in a Glasgow street.

Robert Nixon went to her rescue and administered first aid following the scare in Pollok. The victim who was later rushed to hospital survived her ordeal.

And 37-year-old Robert from Newton Mearns has been rewarded.

He works for Cordia, an arms-length organisation of Glasgow City Council and which is the largest home care provider in Scotland.

His bosses were so impressed they have presented him with a Heart of Gold Award for going "above and beyond" his daily routine.

Robert was nominated for the inhouse award by David McDonald, the SNP councillor for Greater Pollok, who witnessed the incident.

Cordia managing director David Melvin said: "I'd like to congratulate Robert and thank him for his heroic efforts."

Robert said: "When you have first aid training and you see someone in need you just do what has to be done."
