THE Governor of the Bank of England has said a currency union is "incompatible with sovereignty."
He said a successful currency union would require cross-border agreements on tax and spending as well as on banking rules and the agreement of all countries.
He said: "So it's in that context, if you put it together, a currency union is incompatible with sovereignty."
The Better Together campaign said it is proof that Alex Salmond must reveal his Plan B to a currency union.
Alistair Darling said: "Mark Carney has confirmed what we have been saying all along.
"It would mean what would then be a foreign country having control over our economy.
"That's why a currency union would be bad for Scotland, as well as the rest of the UK.
"What Scots deserve now from Alex Salmond is honesty about what his Plan B is."
