A POLICE force has introduced its newest recruit.

Griffin the 12-week-old German Shepherd puppy is to be the latest canine crime-buster.

The pup is receiving obedience training before enrolling in police dog school early in the new year.

German Shepherds provide a vital service for the force, helping officers detect drugs and firearms and recover victims.

Griffin's sister Herbie will join him on the 12-week training course to gain their police dog licences.

Handler Sergeant Carol Adamson, who is based at the dog branch in Pollok Park, Glasgow, said: "We buy in dogs from working lines so that they have got the attributes necessary to be a police dog.

"We are looking for puppies to be confident, active and inquisitive, and so far Griffin is showing that he's got potential.

"I've always loved dogs, you can't be in a job like this without having a passion for them because they are with you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"They are with you at home and they come with you to work, so if you're a dog lover it's a dream job."
