CHILDREN in Glasgow have voted The Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson, as their number one book in a survey by Save the Children.
The Gruffalo saw off Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone by JK Rowling and Charlie & The Chocolate factory by Roald Dahl to take top spot.
The survey was conducted to raise awareness of the charity's new report, Food For Thought, which reveals how malnutrition holds back children's ability to read.
Gruffalo author Julia Donaldson said: "The devastating impact of malnutrition shouldn't be underestimated.
"It stunts a child's development, sapping the strength of their minds as well of their body, depriving them of the chance to be able to read or write a simple sentence."
