A CITY gym is fit to offer the perfect workout after it was given a £345,000 upgrade.

The newly expanded and refurbished gym at Glasgow Club Spring-burn has now been officially re-opened to the public.

The gym has had an extensive refit and remodelling, and now includes the latest Technogym cardio-vascular and strength conditioning equipment.

The Springburn sports facility, in Kay Street, is the latest centre to undergo refurbishment as part of a four-year programme which will see all the Glasgow Club gyms benefit from new equipment.

The upgrade has seen the relocation of a learning room downstairs into the library, and three store rooms at the back have been turned into one large multi-use space.

As well as state-of-the-art cardio machines, Springburn now has a range of Kinesis strength conditioning stations, a new core training kit and Omnia equipment, which allows users to undertake a range of training in the same spot.

The refurbishment, including the new equipment, has cost around £345,000.

Councillor Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life said: "Glasgow Club members have the choice of state of the art facilities at 22 gyms across the city.

"As more people are inspired by sports events like the Commonwealth Games to improve their own fitness, they are finding the widest range of classes and equipment available at Glasgow Club venues."

The Glasgow Club has around 36,500 members and last year there was a record 6.3 million attendances across its facilities.

During the Common-wealth Games, some facilities were closed to members of the public and operated by Glasgow 2014.

Following the massive event, Glasgow Life announced the cost of membership to the club would be frozen until the next Games in 2018.

Glasgow Club bosses are offering members an incentive to introduce new members. Anyone who refers a friend this month will receive a £20 Debenhams voucher.
