HEAVY hail and sleet showers blasted the West of Scotland today as wintry weather made a return.
Reports of unseasonal weather in East Kilbride and Stepps described heavy wintry showers while heavy rain hit Glasgow.
Forecasters said heavy showers were predicted across the Central Belt today, with hail and sleet interspersed with rain.
Glasgow was this morning hit with torrential rain mixed with some sleet.
In the Highlands and Argyll and Bute, snow fell on the hills above 400 metres.
Paul Mott, a forecaster with Meteogroup, said heavy showers were forecast across Western and Southern Scotland today.
He said: "The worst of the showers will go by the early evening and we won't continue to see hail and snow showers tonight as less cold air comes in from the West.
"If it is heavy enough the hail could settle, some areas could see a light covering of hail, but anything that does settle will melt quickly in temperatures of around 9C."
