Salmond invited to help save meat jobs

FRESH calls have been made for First Minister Alex Salmond to step in to save jobs at a meat processing plant.

Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland Margaret Curran and Glasgow Labour MSP Drew Smith have demanded urgent assistance from the First Minister to save Freshlink, in the East End.

Mrs Curran, Labour MP for Glasgow East, said: "The people of Glasgow need urgent and immediate assistance from the First Minister. The East End of Glasgow cannot afford to lose these jobs.

"I am today inviting Alex Salmond to visit the factory and meet with the workers as a matter of urgency. It is vital that the Scottish and UK Governments work together to save the firm and keep the jobs."

Freshlink, based in Shettleston, is a large local employer and supplies Tesco and Asda.
