Health boss rejects scan bid to cut booze deaths LIVER TRUST SAYS NHS-FUNDED PROGRAMME WOULD SAVE CASH

GLASGOW'S head of public health has rejected calls for a screening programme for one of the city's biggest killers.

The British Liver Trust has called for an NHS-funded scanning system to be introduced to help cut death rates from alcohol-fuelled liver disease.

However Dr Linda de Caestecker, director of public health for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said better education about the dangers of binge drinking and a minimum pricing policy on alcohol would do more to cut deaths.
