Here's how you can enter... Make a date for the night a star is born

IT is set to be one of the most entertaining events of the year, showcasing the city's best up-and-coming talent.

And Glasgow's Star Turn 2012 grand final will be held in one of the most prestigious venues the city has to offer.

On Monday, July 30 at 6.30pm the 10 finalists will take to the stage at the Old Fruitmarket.

And there are now only two days left before the deadline for entries on Thursday.

Clyde 1's Knoxy is to host the event which will include live performances from the finalists and interval entertainment.

Top judges Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus, comedian Sanjeev Kohli, TV presenter Catriona Shearer and panto star Dean Park will share their views on each act and make the final decision.

They will cast their expert eyes over the contestants who include singers, comedians, dance acts and many more.

The winner will walk away with £1000 prize and the chance to perform at a city event later in the year.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the final at the Merchant City concert hall in the hope of catching the debut performance of the city's next big thing.

As the name suggests the Old Fruitmarket was once more famous for groceries than entertainment. The vaulted roof and cast iron columns and balcony retain the Victorian heritage of the building and the listed ironmongery and greengrocers' signs from the original fruitmarket are still in place.

With a capacity of 1200 people standing or 600 people in theatre-style seats, the venue has become popular for the Celtic Connections festival. It closed in 2003 for renovation and reopened in 2006 when it hosted the Bafta Scotland awards.

Knoxy said: "I am super excited to be hosting the final of Glasgow's Star Turn, especially as it's taking place in the Old Fruitmarket.

"It's such a beautiful venue and so iconic for Glaswegians."
