Hobbits are reunited for Billy’s big day

Three Hobbits swapped Middle Earth for the West End of Glasgow as Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd tied the knot in the city.

Billy, 42, married long term partner Ali McKinnon at Oran Mor and was joined on his special day by fellow Rings stars Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan, who brought a touch of Hollywood to Byres Road.

The trio played Pippin, Frodo and Merry – the three Hobbits – in Peter Jackson’s smash hit Lord of the Rings films and became lifelong friends, even going as far as to get matching tattoos after filming finished. Billy and Ali, a ballet dancer and yoga instructor, have a four-year-old son, Jack William. Jack and Billy wore matching suits at the ceremony, which was attended by 30 close friends and family. The reception was also held at Oran Mor, just round the corner from the couple’s home, and was attended by 160 guests. Billy met Ali at a 2002 panto in which she was appearing.
