A WEST of Scotland hospital has once more been ranked the most gay-friendly workplace in the NHS.

The Golden Jubilee National Hospital was ranked the top NHS board in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI) for the fourth year running.

The board has moved up from 159 to 123 place in the UK rankings in the last year.

It also manages the Beardmore facilities, which has a state-of-the-art research and sciences skill centre and a four-star hotel.

The WEI is a measure of how an organisation meets the needs of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) staff and patients.

The hospital was praised for highlighting the care requirements of transgender patients to staff.

Carole Anderson, one of the sexual orientation equality leads, said: "We are delighted that our workplace equality index score has improved significantly this year, as the Index becomes tougher and more competitive each year.

"These improvements produce real benefits for our staff, customers and service users. We now look forward to working with Stonewall to help us identify any areas that we can improve on."

Jeane Freeman, chairwoman of the GJNH Board, added: "At the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, we are committed to creating an inclusive work environment that not only welcomes individuals of all backgrounds, but actively highlights and celebrates the unique mix of people who, together, make it possible for us to provide the highest possible standard of care for every patient who comes here."
