HUNDREDS of people have gathered in Glasgow's George Square for a candlelit vigil to Karen Buckley.

A piper played Amazing Grace and candles were lit in Karen's memory.
People wrote signs in honour of of the student. One sign said: "Shine bright diamond."

Another mourner held up a sign saying: "Glasgow's sorry."
Members of Glasgow Caledonion University, where Karen studied occupational therapy, held each other and wept as an Irish Blessing was sung.
Rosie Kane, who organised the event, said: "Karen will never be forgotten by Glasgow."

Karen, a qualified nurse who was studying occupational therapy in Glasgow, disappeared after leaving The Sanctuary nightclub in the West End of the city in the early hours of Sunday.

Her remains were found in the early hours of Thursday at a farm near Milngavie, north of the city, after a huge police search.

A Facebook page was set up to encourage members of the public to attend a vigil and pay their respects at around 5pm on Friday.

It came after staff and students, along with Karen's parents, laid tributes at Glasgow Caledonian University earlier in the day.

More than £50,000 was raised in the space of 24 hours by well-wishers to support the family through their ordeal.
