HUNDREDS of walkers will gather for a twilight charity event in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

This Saturday's 10K, titled 'Walk Ten', will provide much needed support for the charity which cares for terminally ill cancer patients in their homes and in hospices.

The focal point of the evening's celebrations, in Glasgow's Pollok Country Park, will be the 10K walk through the park, which will be followed by a firework display, live music, entertainment and stalls selling food and drink.

Participants are encouraged to bring their torches for the walk which is due to start at 7pm, however marshals will be present along the route to light up the way.

Torches will be available to buy on the night.

The walk is scheduled to last for around two hours and at 10pm the fireworks display - intended to be a celebration of light paying tribute to the Marie Curie Nurses - will commence.

The start time for the display will be significant as it marks the time which the Marie Curie nurses begin their night shifts.

Those wishing to take part in the event can register on the night for £20 and children under 16 can take part for free.

Marie Curie is the biggest provider of hospice beds outside the NHS and offers a completely free service to patients and their families.

The money raised from the event will help care for patients at the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow as well as support the local Marie Curie Nursing Service.
