Hunt for firebugs as site is hit 3 times

FIREBUGS have caused hundreds of thousands of pounds of damage at a Hamilton building site which has been targeted three times in a week.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following the spate of fires.

Between July 9 and July 15, three buildings were torched at St Giles Way in the Lanarkshire town.

The most recent incident was at around 2.45am on Sunday.

This caused damage which it is estimated will take £250,000 to repair.

Detective Constable Scott Boyle, of Hamilton CID, said today: "This is an unacceptable act of mindless vandalism which has caused a huge amount of loss to this private company.

"In addition, the area near the site is densely populated and these acts could have put other residents' safety at risk.

"It is imperative that we trace who is responsible for these mindless acts."
