REGARDING Kierran Allardice's article about Glasgow Caledonian University.

AS a proud parent of two graduate sons I do feel that there is (incorrectly) a stigma attached to Caley, probably going back as far as my days there when it was the Glasgow College of Technology.

It is prospective employers who "downgrade" Caley, still preferring Glasgow and Strathclyde Graduates, but as I always maintain Qualifications get you a job but they won't always keep you in that job.

EVERYONE has forgotten what GCU is affectionately known as? - The Bus Union Uni. There is there is a lot of snobbery in Glasgow about the best unis but I think a sense of humour goes a long way to not take it too seriously. There is a lot of middle class people at university who do look at other universities as below them but that's age old and will continue forever.

THE Royal Infirmary looked after my mum and treated her over the last two weeks and the service and treatment she got from all departments, including A&E, was nothing less than first class. We all hear the negative comments when there is a problem, but very often hear of the fantastic work they do on a daily basis.

As Iain MacDonald says, there are always periods when excessive demand leaves services stretched and unfortunately this is when they are criticised.
