A rapist who filmed himself carrying out depraved sex attacks on a young girl has been jailed for 16 years.

Lee Curley, 36, of Tower Hamlets, east London, raped his victim repeatedly over a 10-month period - filming his sick acts on a mobile phone and iPad, police said.

He took more than 120 pictures and videos of his attacks on the girl, said to be under the age of 13, between May 2015 and March 2016.

On top of this, police found a library of more than 1,000 similar pictures and videos of children being abused in his possession.

Curley was given a 16-year prison sentence at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, the Met Police said.

He was snared by detectives in March after evidence of his attacks was discovered on his iPad.

It was also found that he had been grooming a second victim between 2012 and 2014.

Curley pleaded guilty to a total of 10 charges - four relating to his attacks on the young girl. These were rape of a girl under 13, possessing an extreme pornographic image portraying rape, possessing indecent photographs of a child and making indecent photographs of a child.

He also admitted six offences related to the grooming of his second victim: These were three offences of inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity and three offences of causing a child under 13 to look at an image of sexual activity.

DC Carla Goymer-Ellice said: "My thoughts throughout this inquiry have been with those who suffered at the hands of this man.

"In 14 years of investigating serious and sexual crime, this was one of the worst cases I have dealt with.

"It was a terrible series of assaults that upset even experienced investigators, but we were all fully committed to bringing the man responsible to justice."

Curley was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life, police said.
