A heartbroken mum who was forced to watch as her eight-year-old son perished in a house fire has been found dead two weeks later in a suspected suicide.

Tragic Lucas Carter was pulled out of the burning semi-detached property at 2.52am on October 30.

The "footy-mad" schoolboy was rushed to hospital but despite the best efforts of doctors, he was confirmed dead two hours later at 5am.

His mum Kelly-Anne Carter, 35, was found by firefighters on the front lawn of the house on Platt Avenue in Sandbach, Cheshire, with "serious burns".

The Waitrose worker was taken to Leighton Hospital in Crewe and was said to be in a stable condition.

But today, it emerged devastated Kelly-Anne was found dead at her partner Andy Hough's home on Coleridge Close in Sandbach at 9.44am on Saturday.

Cheshire Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We were notified of a sudden death at the address and a 35-year-old-woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a file will now be prepared for the coroner."

A family friend said she had been told Kelly-Anne had committed suicide after being "haunted" by her son's death.

She added: "My youngest son went to school with Kelly-Anne and he told me this morning that she had killed herself.

"He knew her quite well. He said she was absolutely devastated at what she had seen and was obviously haunted by it.

"No parent would really ever get over that. It is so tragic. The whole community has been rocked."

Kelly-Anne's partner Andy, 33, was described as being "utterly devastated" by his mum today.

Speaking from her home in Sandbach, Pauline Hough, 61, said: "My son is absolutely devastated as we all are. At least she is with her son now.

"Andy is utterly distraught and still in complete shock."

Andy updated his profile picture to an image of the mum kissing her son Lucas over the weekend.

Louise Hough Perry commented: "So sorry for your loss Andrew thinking of you always here if you need to talk xxx beautiful photo rip Kelly and Lucas xxxx"

Offley Primary School, where Lucas went to school, announced that Kelly-Anne had passed away in a Facebook post on Saturday evening.

They wrote: "It is with profound shock and deep sadness that we learn of the death of Lucas Carter's mum Kelly-Anne at her partner's home on Saturday.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and partner Andy.

"Lucas died in tragic circumstances on October 30th 2016 and his funeral is due to take place at St. Mary's church on Friday.

"We now learn that Kelly-Anne has also died making this so much harder to bear for the family and all who knew them.

"This is a very difficult time for the family and for Offley Primary School as we try to comprehend what has happened and support the children, staff and the school community at this distressing time.

"Our school governor, the Rev Thomas Shepherd of St. Mary's is in contact with the family and, through him, the school has extended its sincere sympathies and condolences.

"We ask that all parents respect the privacy the family need at this difficult time but we would add that if any parent or child wishes to seek counselling or emotional support to contact the school office."

Piles of flowers and a teddy bear were left at the scene of the fire after Lucas' death last month.

One message read: "Sleep tight little man" while neighbours said the youngster was a "bright boy with the world ahead of him".

One resident added: "We just can't believe what's happened.

"He loved his sports, he was footy mad.

"I know his mum and I know the family must in just utter devastation right now.

"All the neighbours are shocked too - it'll be awful not seeing Lucas at the school anymore.'

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is also looking into Lucas's death after it emerged police had been called to the house just three hours before the blaze.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are working with Cheshire Police and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing."
