A mum who became a prisoner in her own home due to people constantly urinating on her fence has painted a huge arrow on it - pointing to nearby public toilets.

Zoe Rooney, 37, has been overwhelmed by the constant stench of pee for two years caused by people relieving themselves on or near her garden fence.

Desperate Zoe, who suffers from agoraphobia and only finds peace in her back garden, took matters into her own hands.

She has now written 'TOILETS' in giant capital letters on the fence with an arrow directing people towards toilets at a nearby sports centre.

Single mum-of-two Zoe, of St Michael's Avenue, Yeovil, Somerset, claims people using sports pitches at the local school are to blame for turning her garden in to a latrine.

Unemployed Zoe claims six people urinated on her fence in just fours hours on Monday - at one stage there were four lads lined up at once.

Zoe said: "I accept the noise, swearing and floodlights. I knew when moving in that that would be an issue, but I never expected the pee.

"I have had almost two years of people peeing next to my house or on my fence.

"We've had lots of meetings to try and resolve the problem and countless phone calls.

"This is the very last resort. I did ensure the painting was done well and not scruffy.

"The staff at the sports centre are great. Every time I have phoned, they go and have a word, but often get abuse from the players.

"In the summer, when I am sitting outside eating in my garden, they are peeing up against the fence and it seeps through. It's just a nightmare."

Zoe says the sports centre put up signs last year warning people not to urinate on her fence but the problem has persisted.

She added: "An email was sent last year to all teams warning of a ban if they kept on peeing but it never stopped it. They put up signs on the fences but were ignored. They are at a loss.

"They even now lock the side gate to make it harder but it seems people go out of their way to pee there.

"The toilets are often closer than the area they urinate on. It is unsanitary. It's especially disgusting in the summer. It stinks."

Zoe says she hasn't reported the issue to police but has spoken to local beat officers about her grievances.

Craig Fletcher, assistant headteacher at Bucker's Mead Academy, which owns the sports centre, said: "As a school and as a leisure centre we're actively encouraging people to do the right thing and behave appropriately.

"We are aware we live in a residential area and are always careful to make sure that factors such as noise are carefully monitored. We want to adhere to and support the community.

"We'll do everything in our power to work with those concerned by this issue."
