A golf club in a 17th century building was trashed beyond recognition after an alleged 200 travellers wreaked havoc when the free bar ran out.

Shocking images have surfaced on social media showing toilets flooded and rubbish strewn across a function room at the posh Stapleford Abbotts Golf Club near Essex.

Chairs were knocked over, debris was crushed into the carpets, and sinks were left clogged with dirty tissues.

The party had reportedly only been booked for 50 people but, after the free bar finished, friends of friends are said to have shown up behind the bar to help themselves to booze.

It was from here that a massive brawl broke out when staff tried to intervene.

Images of the total carnage left behind were shared on Twitter by Inspector Rob Brettell with the Grays/Thurrock Local Policing Team at Essex Police.

He confirmed on Wednesday that there was a “large scale public order incident” in the club with “lots of damage and thefts.”

A spokesman with the force described how police were called to reports of a disturbance at the venue just before 10pm.

He added: “We received calls about criminal damage and theft from the venue following a disagreement between travellers and staff at a party.”

“Officers attended, dispersed the group and monitored the situation. Enquiries are ongoing,” reports MailOnline.
