The 29 year hold offered his place on court to the young ball boy, who hesitated at first, but eventually took the raquet from Murray and even asked his fellow ball boys to throw him a ball so he could take on the Swiss pro.
Despite encouragement from Murray and the crowd, the ball boy served two faults.
When invited by Federer to try again he politely declined and returned the racquet to Murray.
Federer went on to win the lighthearted match against the world champ.
