A MAN from York who shares his name with the world’s most famous wizard has admitted dealing cannabis and will soon face a crown court judge.
Harry Potter, of Mill Lane, Acaster Malbis, appeared at York Magistrates Court yesterday.
He pleaded guilty to possessing a class B drug with intent to supply, and his case was sent to York Crown Court where he will be sentenced on May 4.
The court heard that Potter, 19, was stopped on his moped on January 19 when a police officer noticed a strong smell of cannabis.
He was searched and police found Potter had three wraps of cannabis and £70 in cash with him.
For Potter, solicitor Jane Maloney said he had been very frank with the police in interviews and had made an early guilty plea, and had no previous convictions.
Miss Maloney said Potter had not gained financially from dealing cannabis but had instead been buying the drug for himself along with extra that he would pass on to his friends at York College only charging them the same amount he had paid.
District Judge Adrian Lower told Potter the case had to be sent to the higher court for sentence.
He also asked the probation service to prepare a pre-sentence report for Potter, on an “all options” basis meaning he could still face a prison sentence.
Although he had not made any profit, the judge said, Potter had admitted to dealing cannabis for a significant period of time.
