A mum has called in police after being bombarded with online abuse from people mistaking her for the brunette at the centre of Wayne Rooney's drink-drive scandal.

Laura Simpson, 27, says she fears for her safety after receiving vile messages on all of her social media accounts branding her a "home-wrecker".

Evil trolls have been confusing the full-time mum with the 29-year-old of the same name, who enjoyed "a kiss and a cuddle" with the Everton star on the eve of his arrest.

Laura, of Stoke-on-Trent, said she was forced to call police after becoming worried for the welfare of herself and her three-month-old son.

She said: "People are searching the name and going crazy at me and if they bothered looking into it they'd realise it wasn't me.

"I'm getting every kind of abuse you can imagine.

Glasgow Times:

" Every day people are sending me messages saying I'm a home-wrecker, that I'm a disgrace and that I should be ashamed of myself.

"I can't pick up my phone without seeing the abuse. As a new mum I can do without the stress.

"I've turned off the notifications because otherwise I'm constantly having to swipe off the messages before answering texts.

"I've contact the police as I was worried about mine and my baby's safety.

"The police suggested I close my social media accounts as there's not a lot they can do.

"But my auntie and uncle live in America and they've had all those storms and the easiest way to stay in contact with them is through Facebook.

"Why should I have to cut myself off from my friends and family when I am the victim?"

The abuse started after office worker Laura Simpson was caught partying with the former Manchester United and England captain when he was caught drink-driving.

But following the party girl's rambling appearance on ITV's This Morning defending herself on Thursday she says the messages have got worse.

Laura, who lives with partner Aaron Moran, 31, said she has received over 50 messages in total on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

She added: "The abuse had died down a bit.

"But after she did the interview on This Morning it's started up again, with people saying I came across really bad.

"I don't usually respond but sometimes I just say it's not me. But then the trolls say that's a typical tweet my agent would say.

"I'm just a normal woman, I don't have an agent.

"For something someone else has done I'm the one suffering the backlash.

"She's getting all this money out of it, and I'm suffering the repercussions from her actions.

"They constantly harass me. It's crazy. I don't even look like her.

"She's probably making a fortune out of it and I'm getting nothing but stress and anxiety.

"I'm suffering probably as much as she is with the trolls."

One person asked Stoke City fan Laura if she had kissed Rooney and that she "should be ashamed going after football players".

Twitter user @KevinTwoddle, said: "You should never have done that TV interview with Phillip Schofield. I don't think you came across well at all."

Cynthia Aldred wrote on Facebook: "After telling everyone for weeks she nearly shagged Wayne she now says [it's] all been blown up out of proportion! Attention seeking moron."
