More than 150 youngsters were presented with Diana Awards at a ceremony at the City Chambers after showing qualities such as compassion and selfless commitment which they share with the late Princess of Wales.

Ryan McLaughlin, 16, from Drumchapel, who led the Shine on Scotland campaign to raise awareness of a multiple sclerosis and vitamin D link won a Diana Active Campaigner Award.

The Knightswood Secondary pupil and Evening Times Community Champion said: "I am honoured my campaign work has been recognised.

"I hope I inspire more young people to campaign for causes they feel are important."

Fellow Knightswood Secondary pupil Samuel Bell picked up the Diana Courageous Citizen Award for his work with group Patients on Intravenous and Nasogastric Nutrition Therapy.

Samuel, 13, from Knightswood, has a rare intestinal condition and is himself fed intravenously but still finds the time to support others.

He said: "I'm delighted. I enjoy showing others that they don't have to be limited by their conditions."

Megan MacKay, 11, and Banaz Kamil, 12, jointly scooped the Diana Anti-Bullying Champion award for their work in resolving conflicts at St Stephen's Primary in Sighthill, while 26 pupils from Govan High were presented with awards for their work ranging from the school choir to the Anne Frank Project.

After the awards were presented by Humza Yousaf MSP and council director of education Maureen McKenna, Awards chief executive Maggie Turner OBE said: "We are immensely proud of our award holders."
