SCOTLAND'S favourite fizzy drink has unveiled a limited edition can design to celebrate the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Irn-Bru launched the new can to mark its sponsorship of Glasgow 2014 with the help of Olympian and Commonwealth Games medallist Peter Kirkbride.

The weightlifter from Kilmarnock, who won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010 and competed with Team GB at London 2012, was at the Clyde Auditorium – the venue which will host the Glasgow 2014 weightlifting competition.

He showed off the special design, which draws on the drink's manufacturer Barr's packaging from 1901, when Highland strongman Adam Brown featured on the original label of "Iron Brew".

A.G. Barr, whose links with Glasgow date back more than 100 years, is supporting the Games with all its brands.

The limited edition design marks over a century of A.G. Barr's sporting heritage, including early sponsorships involving Donald Dinnie, all round Champion Athlete of the World, and Alex Munro, Champion Caber Tosser of the World and Champion Wrestler.

It is the first in a series of three designs being created in the run-up to Glasgow 2014.

Adrian Troy, Irn-Bru's head of marketing, said: "We're extremely excited to be part of what's set to be an extraordinary event."
