THE health and fitness club at the new Emirates Arena has signed up its 500th member – Gymmy the mascot.

Fitness fans have been flocking to the Glasgow Club at the £113million venue.

And Gymmy became the 500th member to join since the centre opened six weeks ago.

The centre has more than 80 personal training stations, as well as a training zone, dance studio, spin studio and mind and body studio.

It operates 75 fitness classes each week, including Metafit, Zumba, Body Attack and yoga.

The Glasgow Club, which has 26,400 members across the city, is Scotland's biggest health and fitness network, with 26 centres, 12 swimming pools and about 1000 fitness classes weekly.

Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life, which runs the arena, said: "The Emirates Arena was built for the people of Glasgow.

"It will regularly host world-class sporting events but, at the same time, will be a fantastic community resource.

"Local people will be using it on a daily basis and it is hugely encouraging to see the Glasgow Club at the arena has already signed up its 500th new member.

"We want to see more local people take advantage of its facilities."

As well as the health and fitness centre, Glasgow Club members can also hire any of the arena's three indoor sports halls and four outdoor five-a-side pitches or book sessions on the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
