The struggle of passengers trying to escape from a stricken plane at Glasgow Airport has been outlined by air accident investigators.

Their report describes passengers bumping into each other on the slides or being knocked to the ground as they escaped from a smoke-filled cabin of a Boeing 737 following an aborted take-off.

The Boeing 737, operated by Jet2, was due to fly to Alicante in Spain on October 19, last year, with 187 passengers aboard.

The Air Accident Investigations Branch said there was one serious injury and 15 minor ones.

The captain entered the flight deck and, with smoke visible and a strong smell of burning, ordered an emergency evacuation.

The report said the age or infirmity of some of the passengers may have extended the evacuation time.

It added that some passengers re-entered the cabin through the over-wing exits, rather than slide down the flaps as they considered it would be safer to use an escape slide.
