ENTERTAINER John Barrowman is coming home to Glasgow for a major concert this summer.

The star is to sing at Glasgow Green on Friday June 22 at a gig for thousands of fans when he will perform classic tunes, Eurovision tracks and his signature tune I Am What I Am.

Songs will include Michael Buble and Barry Manilow favourites when Doctor Who and Torchwood actor John –who was born in Mount Vernon– is back in the city.

John left as a child to go to America with his family and was last in Glasgow as the star of the pantoRobinson Crusoe, with the Krankies, at Clyde Auditorium last winter.

As well as his panto appearance, John, 45, picked up an honorary degree last year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, formerly the RSAMD.

He collected a Doctor of Drama degree, after not having the chance to finish his own performance qualif-ications at college in San Diego because he landed a leading role in West End show Anything Goes.

Since then, he has played major parts in musicals in the West End and on Broadway, including Miss Saigon, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boule-vard and Matador.

A spokeswoman for concert prom-otors Cuffe & Taylor, said: "We are great fans of John Barrow-man and this tour is extremely special for us as it's the only summer tour he is doing.

"To include Glasgow, we're bringing home the local boy who has done good and hopefully everyone will turn out to support him.

The Glasgow Green concert is John's only Scottish date of a tour that will see him visit Scarborough, Blackpool and London, and comes off the back of a successful 2011, which saw him become a prime time star in the US with Torchwood, release a greatest hits album, present BBC series Tonight's The Night and perform sell out concerts around the UK.

The multi-talented star also co-wrote fantasy novel Hollow Earth, inspired by his native Scotland, with his writer sister Carole E Barrowman.

Tickets for John Barrowman are £30 and are available on 08448 889991 or visit www.ticketline.co.uk or in person from the SECC box office.
