THE number of unemployed teenagers in Glasgow has fallen by nearly 500.

Figures show that the number of Scottish 16 to 19-year-olds claiming unemployment benefit has fallen from 12,670 in September last year to 9410 in the same month this year - a drop of more than 25%.

In Glasgow there was a fall of 490, while in North Lanarkshire the number of 16 to 19-year-olds claiming the allowance dropped by 310.

Jamie Hepburn, MSP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, welcomed the figures from the Scottish Parliament Information Centre.

He said: "While there is no room for complacency, a drop in the number of 16-19 year old claimants of JSA by over 25% is a strong indication of progress."
