DETECTIVES have traced a young woman seen on CCTV the night tragic Irish nurse Karen Buckley vanished in Glasgow.

As reported in late editions of yesterday's Evening Times, police investigating the 24-year-old's death released an image of the woman they want to speak to.

Just hours after the CCTV images were printed in the Evening Times, police revealed the potential key witness had been traced.

After trawling through hours of footage, detectives managed to track down stills of the young woman, who was seen in Dumbarton Road around 12.30am on April 12.

Karen, a student from Cork who had recently moved to Glasgow, was seen leaving a nearby nightclub around 30 minutes later.

Police emphasised that the woman in the CCTV image could hold the vital information.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "The woman in the CCTV image has now been traced.

"We would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance with this matter."

A major police search was launched when Karen was reported missing by her flatmates after she failed to return from a night out in Glasgow's west end.

Karen was last seen at the Sanctuary nightclub after telling friends she was going to the toilet on Sunday April 12.

Her body was found at High Craigton Farm on the north-western outskirts of the city following a four-day search.

Police yesterday released an image of woman, who was seen in Dumbarton Road, near the Gallus pub.

Officers emphasised that she is a potential witness and is not connected to Karen's death.

She was seen walking along nearby Church Street and then got into a Hackney taxi, in Byres Road, which drove off towards Great Western Road.

Detective Superintendent Jim Kerr, who lead the probe into Karen's death, made a direct appeal for the woman to contact him.

She was seen on CCTV footage wearing a short pink dress, a fur jacket and was carrying a large brown shoulder bag.

A 21-year-old man was charged with the murder of tragic Karen.

Alexander Pacteau, is accused of attacking the Irish nurse with a spanner and strangling her.
