The appointment will result in Kerry Nixon's work being seen by a global television audience of 1.5billion people when the medal-bearers carry the gold, silver and bronze medals awarded to the athletes.
Kerry, who attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, married Caleb Knightley in Pollokshields Burgh Hall in Glasgow two years ago. One of her bridesmaids was Caleb's film star sister Keira.
Kerry initially studied violin and electronic music before switching to fashion and is well known for her love of Scottish textiles.
Famous fans of her designer creations have included top actresses Gemma Arterton, Kirsten Dunst and Sienna Miller.
Kerry is also stylist to Downton Abbey stars Joanne Froggatt and Myanna Buring.
David Grevemberg, chief executive of Glasgow 2014, said: "It is a real coup for us to have Kerry on board. We are delighted to be working with her and know she will bring something truly unique and stylish to the Games.
"We have admired the work Kerry has done in the past, in particular her collaborations with the textile industry in Scotland and the incorporation of Scottish fabrics into her design."
Kerry said: "Glasgow is such a stylish city and for me to be able to showcase my designs as part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games on an international stage is such an amazing opportunity.
"I will be aiming for a really contemporary, youthful and stylish look which reflects the ethos of the Glasgow 2014 Games.
"The Games are going to be a really fun time for Glasgow and it is a real privilege for me to be involved in something like this in my home town.
"I will be looking to reate something which is very memorable and eflects Scotland."
