SCHOOL dinners in Glasgow are now coming with added byte...

as primary menus are launched online.

A website has been unveiled to display photographs of every option available to pupils from the Fuel Zone menu.

It also has handy hints and tips for parents to keep children healthy and active at home.

The site was launched by Glasgow City Council's arm's-length organisation Cordia to coincide with this week's Assist's National School Meals Week.

Cordia is the catering supplier to all 184 primary, secondary and Additional Support for Learning schools in the city.

Julia McCreadie, its head of facilities management, said: "Healthy eating is a priority for us and this website is packed full of helpful advice for children."

It gives information on all of the food available in primary schools, including vegetarian and Halal choices when there is demand.

There are separate areas on the website for children and adults.

Adults can access tips for keeping children active and healthy when they are not in the classroom, while youngsters can browse through a food facts section and download a number of art-themed activities.

Ms McCreadie added: "We have put a lot of work into the site, with the design team creating an extremely colourful and highly usable layout that should be very popular with pupils and their parents."

The site also contains a blog section with information and news relating to school meals, encouraging feedback from parents.

For pupils who take packed lunches, the website also has a detailed selection of healthy choices for light snacks and lunchbox fillers.
