A CITY councillor has quit the Labour Party after almost 10 years, throwing the ruling group into further chaos ahead of May's elections.

Anne Marie Millar, the councillor for Southside Central, yesterday quit Labour and signalled her intent to stand as an independent.

She was first elected to the Govanhill ward in 2003.

Ms Millar, 63, was one of around 20 Glasgow City councillors deselected by Labour last year and told they would not be put forward to stand for election as a Labour candidate in May.
