LABOUR begins a week of election pledged with a promise to invest in working class families and young people.

Margaret Curran Shadow Scottish Secretary and Glasgow East MP said a Labour Government would go further than the Smith Commission proposals to deliver Home Rule and would keep the Barnett funding formula.

Ms Curran, who faces a strong challenge in her constituency from the SNP candidate Natalie McGarry, said Labour would guarantee higher public spending in Scotland continued.

Ms Curran won the seat back at the last General Election for Labour after the SNP won it in a by election in 2008.

She said:"Scots were promised major new powers and a Labour Government will not just deliver on these but go even further. Under a Labour Government the final decision on welfare in Scotland will be made here in Scotland.

"Only with a Labour Government will there be radical new powers for Scotland and the security of the block grant.

"This election isn't just about individual policies, it's about the values we posses.

"For Labour that means investing in working class families. That's why our commitment to the block grant is unwavering. Under a Labour Government the higher levels of public spending Scotland gets through the block grant are here to stay.

"That might upset Boris Johnson and his Tory pals, but it's the right thing to do for Scotland."

She said Labour would go further than the Tories and LibDems on more powers and SNP plans for fiscal autonomy mean scrapping Barnett and costing £7.6bn of extra cuts.

The Greens and the Tories are also launching their Election campaigns in Edinburgh today."
