A SCHOOLGIRL has won East Renfrewshire's Citizen of the Year award.
Lauren Cosgrove, nine from Barrhead, was given the award for her fundraising efforts.
The St. John's primary school pupil was born at just 27 weeks with incurable short bowel syndrome and suffers chronic pain.
She needs to carry around three machines in backpacks every day to stay alive.
She set up her charity - Lauren's Lifelines - to raise money for and help other children like her.
Provost Alastair Carmichael said: "This year feels extra special because our citizen of the year 2014 is someone who has shown an incredible spirit her whole life.
"In the last year Lauren Cosgrove has set up her own charity, dedicated her spare time to organising fundraising events including 10K runs, a sponsored cycle, charity nights and even had her own hair cut off to donate to the Little Princess Trust which makes real hair wigs for children."
