Leftover Glasgow food to power up 3000 homes

MEAL scraps from Glasgow hospitals are to be used to help fuel a new recycling facility that will produce enough energy to power 3000 homes.

Waste management company Shanks has opened a renewable plant in Cumbernauld, as well as a recycling site near Blochairn Market in the north of the city.

The double launch represents a combined investment of £20million and has generated almost 40 jobs across both sites.
