A luxury car dealership is moving into a prestigious retail site near Braehead, creating a “golden triangle” of top-of-the-range car showrooms.
Infiniti, the luxury range of Japanese giant Nissan, is setting up by Junction 26 of the M8, at the same roundabout as Glasgow Audi and the nearby Porsche outlet.
Brian Clark, co-managing director of developers Park Lane, which sold the site to Infiniti for £1.25 million, said: “We sold the site to Infiniti for a new up-market car showroom and we are delighted that they have chosen this key location for their only showroom in Scotland.
“Over the course of the last year we’ve fully serviced the site with a new internal road layout and associated drainage and services, carried out by local contractor Luddon, representing an additional investment in the site of over £1m.”
Planners who inspected the proposal for the car showroom ahead of its approval by Renfrewshire Council estimate that Infiniti will provide 21 jobs at the site by 2014.
The arrival of the car business will mark phase one of the development, but there is scope for a new hotel and other businesses to set up on the same plot in the future.
Mr Clark added: “We are in early discussions with a number of other operators who have expressed an interest in the site, which is very encouraging in the current market.”
Councillor Bruce McFee, Renfrewshire Council’s economic development spokesman, said: “It’s very encouraging that another quality car dealership is choosing to come to Renfrewshire.
“Braehead is clearly establishing itself as a popular centre for this type of business. There’s great competition to attract these sites and this is very positive news.”
It is expected that the Infiniti showroom will open in the autumn.
