A DYING dog that became a Glasgow celebrity for wearing a Celtic football strip was taken to the Clutha after the owner made a bucket-list request.

Magic the eight-year-old boxer has kidney failure and may need to be put to sleep as early as Monday.

Devastated owner Stephen Girvan, 38, found out three weeks ago that his "best friend" was dying - and was determined to make her last few weeks special for them both.

He asked Clutha owner Alan Crossan if they could get access to the bar one last time, since Magic will likely be gone when the bar re-opens following the tragic helicopter crash in November 2013.

The management invited Stephen and his pooch to the bar for a final farewell.

Magic, whose weight has dropped from 36kg to 22kg through illness is now resting at Stephen's sister home in Castlemilk as they prepare for the upsetting visit to the vet next week.

Stephen, a web designer who has owned Magic for nearly three years, said: "The vets said there's nothing they can do.

It's inevitable. If she was a human she'd get dialysis and a kidney transplant but they can't do that for her.

"I've been greeting for about three weeks."

Stephen said the pair loved the Clutha. He was granted a visit to the bar, which has been closed since the helicopter crashed through the roof more than 15 months ago.

He said: "We loved the Clutha. We went in there with Juventus fans and there was about 15 of them taking pictures.

"I always joke that there must be all these Juventus fans with pictures of my dog in a Celtic strip.

"We always get stopped in the street because people want pictures of her.

"She's become a local wee celebrity."

The pedigree boxer, who has more than 4000 Facebook fans, became a victim of hate crime after she was kicked for wearing a Celtic top following the Stiliyan Petrov charity match in September 2013.

The incident was probed by police but those responsible were never caught.

Stephen said Magic has enjoyed a full life and loved rolling around the ground doing the "Riverdance" and running around fields.

Magic even accompanied the family to Stephen's dad's funeral a year ago, where she wore her Scotland strip.

Stephen said: "She's my best friend and I'll miss her so much."

Stephen is appealing for people to send him pictures of their dogs to compile a charity calendar in memory of Magic.

The money raised will go to an animal charity.
