TRAIN passengers have been warned to expect delays ahead of engineering work on one of Scotland's busiest lines.

The main line between Glasgow and Edinburgh via Falkirk High will see disruptions as a result of engineering improvements on the main line .

The rail line through Winchburgh Tunnel, near Linlithgow, will be closed from Saturday 13 June until Monday 27 July while Network Rail prepares for electrification of the route.

A temporary timetable will be in place during the works and busier peak times canbe expected.

Queuing systems will also be in place at Glasgow Queen Street, Edinburgh Waverley, Haymarket, Edinburgh Park and Linlithgow stations.

The trains will run every 30 minutes in both directions between Glasgow Queen Street High Level and Linlithgow only- calling at Croy, Polmont and Falkirk High.

Customers travelling 'end to end' between Glasgow and Edinburgh will be directed by staff to alternative routes. This will include a service from Glasgow Queen Street Low Level to Edinburgh which will pass through Airdrie and Bathgate.

The second alternative route will be from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh via Motherwell and Shotts.

Customers travelling ‘end to end’ between Glasgow and Edinburgh will be directed by staff to alternative routes:

· Glasgow Queen Street Low Level – Airdrie/Bathgate - Edinburgh
· Glasgow Central – Motherwell / Shotts – Edinburgh

A ScotRail spokeswoman said: "We are advising commuters to set off earlier than normal as journeys between the two cities will take longer. Some people may be able to amend their travel times so that they can use trains that are less busy."
