A MAN is to stand trial later this year accused of a murder bid in Rutherglen.

Raymond Bell yesterday faced the allegation at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 29-year-old is charged with attacking David Black in Lochaber Drive, Rutherglen on November last year.

The attempted murder accusation includes a claim Mr Black was left "permanently impaired".

Mr Black is said to have been rendered unconscious after being punched, kicked and stamped upon.

Prosecutors also claim Bell brandished a table leg at him.

Bell faces two other separate assault charges against John McGuire and Samantha Millar.

He is then charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice which includes a claim he fled to Blackpool after the attacks.

Bell finally faces allegations of possessing cannabis and cocaine. Tony Graham, defending, pled not guilty to the charges on his behalf.

Judge Lord Turnbull set a trial due to begin in July in Glasgow.
