Man arrested over hit-and-run death

A 62-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with the death of a father-of-three who was run down by a pick-up truck.

Frank Baxter, 23, died in hospital after the incident in Crindledyke Crescent in Newmains, North Lanarkshire, on Tuesday night.

Strathclyde Police said a man had been arrested and was being held in custody in connection with Mr Baxter's death.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal and the man is expected to appear in court today.

Mr Baxter died in hospital after the accident.

The landscape gardener was walking home just before 11pm when he was struck.

Mr Baxter's wife Williamena and their children are being comforted by relatives.

Mr Baxter was with a 31-year-old friend when the incident happened. The friend suffered leg injuries and is in a stable condition in Monklands Hospital, Airdrie.
