A group of men forced their way into a house leaving the victim with serious head injuries.
Police believe the incident in the East End was a "targeted" attack.
The 24-year-old man remains in hospital after the incident in Lamlash Crescent, Cranhill, on Tuesday.
Despite his injuries, the victim contacted his family and an ambulance to alert them.
He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment but was later transferred to the Southern General Hospital. His condition was described as serious but stable.
Detective Sergeant Scott Douglas, from London Road CID, said: "This was a particularly nasty attack on this young man within his own home in the middle of the night."
Meanwhile, officers in Port Glasgow are investigating a separate attempted murder where a 39-year-old man was stabbed several times by two men.
The attack, which is being treated as attempted murder, took place at a house in Devol Avenue on Tuesday.
