A MAN was hoisted to safety after his car ended up in a South Lanarkshire burn.
Firefighters used specialist rope rescue equipment to get the man to an ambulance following the incident on Stoneymeadow Road in Blantyre.
The vehicle was stranded two metres below the road, at 9am yesterday.
Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to cut the man free from the vehicle and remove him on a rescue board before hoisting him to safety.
He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital.
Station Commander Andy Watt from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "This was a challenging operation and the firefighters used both their specialist rope rescue and road rescue training, working closely with paramedics to safely release a man who was still inside the car."
