A MOTORIST was killed after his car left the road and careered down an embankment.
The horrific crash happened on Thursday afternoon in Wishaw.
Police said the A71, at Morningside Road, was expected to be closed for some time as investigation work was carried out by officers.
The name and age of the victim has not yet been released.
He was driving a silver Hyundai on the A71 in North Lanarkshire when the tragedy happened at around 12.55pm.
Ambulance teams were quickly on the scene and the man was found dead in the car.
Police have appealed for any witnesses of the crash to contact them.
A spokeswoman said: "Police are working to establish the exact cause of the crash."
