A MAN was rushed to hospital with second degree burns after attempting to light a fire with lighter fluid.

Fire crews were called to Woodilee Cottages in Lenzie around 7.30 pm yesterday, where they found the man outside.

He had superficial burns on his face, neck and chest as a result of a flash fire and second degree burns to his arms.

It is understood he had tried to light a coal fire inside the house with lighter fluid.

He was treated by fire fighters and paramedics before being taken to Glasgow's Royal Infirmary.

A spokesman from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "The call came in shortly before 7.30 last night.

"It was reports of a fire at a house in Lenzie.

"We immediately sent out an appliance from Kirkintilloch fire station, it arrived five minutes later.

"The fire was already out however a man had suffered burns to his hands and face as well as smoke inhalation.

"He was already outside the property and received treatment from fire fighters and ambulance personnel before being taken to the GRI."

"It looks like the burns were caused by the result of a flash fire because he was trying to use an accelerant to light a coal fire."
