FRANK McAveety will contest the Glasgow Shettleston seat for Labour in the 2016 Scottish Parliament elections.
Glasgow councillor McAveety was chosen by local members at a meeting held in Bridgeton on Thursday.
He described the selection as an "absolute honour".
The councillor added: "Local members have put their trust in me to lead the fight against the SNP Government and deliver for people in the East End of Glasgow - and that's exactly what I'll do."
