The frontman of chart-topping boyband McFly caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to a Glasgow radio station after spilling coffee over a state-of the-art studio mixing desk.
Danny Jones, who sings lead vocals and plays guitar with the pop band, was being interviewed by Real Radio Scotland when the disaster happened, sparking a panic among studio engineers.
The band was allowed to ignore the station’s strict “no liquids in the studio” policy after arriving at the Ballieston broadcast hub complete with cups of coffee.
But while singer Danny was being interviewed, he accidentally knocked his hot drink into the £10,000 mixing desk which was recording the chat.
It left the sophisticated equipment useless as engineers frantically tried to mop-up the mess and salvage the expensive recording gear before the sticky coffee ruined it.
The radio station has a strict rule that no liquids should be taken into the studio at any time to prevent just such an accident.
But presenter Paul Harper relaxed the restrictions and allowed the band to bring their drinks into the studio during the interview.
He had just finished chatting to Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd, who were leaving the station when the accident happened.
Paul said: “I couldn’t believe it when the coffee fell into the desk.
“These desks aren’t like any normal ones; they record and broadcast everything that you hear on Real Radio and without them, we’re in trouble.
“Danny started shouting to the other guys,‘someone get your T-shirt off and mop it!’
“He also broke his iPhone in all the commotion.
“He was very apologetic about it and I’m sure he felt pretty bad about what happened.
“It was an accident and thankfully our engineers have now repaired the damage – and maybe Danny can invest in a new phone now.”
