DEVASTATED youngsters are hoping for a festive miracle after their nativity costumes were eaten ...

by mice!

Children at Garscadden primary school in Anniesland discovered that the rodents had been nibbling at the clothes and ruined them, and now they are appealing for help.

Head teacher Celine McKinlay said: "The school had a slight issue with mice that was dealt with last March.

"The costumes had been stored away in a warm cupboard after last year's nativity play, but we had no idea the mice had got to them until we took them out last week.

"We had the full range, from Mary and Joseph to shepherds, innkeepers and donkeys to angels and stars.

"Every single one now has a hole or a tear in it.

"We need costumes for all 30 children. We have put out a request to local businesses but haven't heard anything.

"Time is marching on as our dress rehearsal is on Wednesday and the play is on Friday."

Ms McKinlay added: "We really hope some kind souls can help us out.

"The choir is singing on Buchanan Street next weekend to raise money for St Margaret's Hospice and two weeks on Friday they will be out raising money for Quarriers.

"The theme of this year's nativity play is 'It's a party'. I hope someone can help us out and save our wee party."

A council spokeswoman said: "The school contacted the appropriate department and the mouse problem was sorted. Let's hope a local business or individual will be able to help kit out the children."
